End of June busy for Nipawin law enforcement

Nipawin RCMP had a busy two days at the end of June as they dealt with multiple incidents

Police said that on June 28, they saw a man on a bicycle who was out of jail on the condition he not be in Nipawin.

When officers turned on their emergency lights, the man fled but was soon discovered by police who then arrested him.

Harvey Whitehead, 37, of Red Earth Cree Nation is now charged with two counts of resisting arrest or obstructing a peace officer, one count of uttering threats an two counts of failing to comply with an undertaking.

His next court appearance is July 13, in Nipawin.

The following day, officers in the community found methamphetamine in a vehicle that had been pulled over in a traffic stop.

Along with the meth, two machetes and some ammunition were discovered.

Both the driver and passenger were arrested.

Walker Karle, 21, is facing charges of possessing meth, possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose and failing to comply with a release order. His next appearance is July 14 in Nipawin.

Theron Owens, 28, of Cumberland House was arrested on warrants issued by the Prince Albert Police Service.

A third and also unconnected incident on June 29 saw officers in Nipawin called to a disturbance at a home.

A man had damaged the windows of the house and then assaulted another person resulting in minor injuries.

The accused man ran from police but was found and arrested shortly afterwards.

Rudy Goulet, 33, of Nipawin is charged with assault with a weapon, resisting a peace officer, mischief under $5,000, two counts of possessing a weapon contrary to an order, failing to comply with release conditions and one count of uttering threats.
