Fire at Senator Allen Bird Memorial Centre

The Senator Allen Bird Memorial Centre caught fire early Friday morning.

The Prince Albert Fire Department was on the scene, with at least two trucks hosing water on the roof on the south side of the building.

They arrived at 8:26 a.m., and had “two aerial trucks and two engines conducted a defensive attack on the fire. The building is a total loss.”

There were no injuries, and the fire did not spread. The department said they were investigating the cause of the fire.

The Prince Albert Police Service attended the scene as early as 8:30 a.m. They advise the public to avoid the area.

Billowing smoke could be seen from across the city, as far as the East Hill. Ambulance and police were also at the scene.
