Apr 12, 2022 | 3:00 PM

Prince Albert’s Cameron Preymack can now lay claim to holding a Saskatchewan squat record.

The 27-year-old was among several members of the Prince Albert Powerlifting team to compete last weekend at a competition in Saskatoon.

Preymack, who competes in the 74 kg Open Category, managed to squat an astounding 256 kg (564 lb). He told paNOW the achievement represents a solid 12 weeks of training.

“I was really happy with the performance on getting the squat record. I had my sights set on getting the record now that competitions are opening back up. I was able to attempt it and take the record,” he said.

The previous record for Preymack’s age and weight class was 255.5 kg.

The competition, hosted by Synergy Strength, represented Preymack’s first since COVID, and he explained he is to happy to be dipping his toes back in the water and competing again.

He’s now preparing for the Western Canadians, which will be held in Calgary in September. His father Kevin Preymack explained to paNOW his son has always been strong.

“Since the first day we brought him home from the hospital we knew he was a little stronger than most when he did a push-up at three days old and walking by eight months old,” he said.

Kevin went on to explain the first time he saw his son squat 400 lb, he thought he had reached his limit. However, noting his son’s stubbornness and drive, the proud father admitted to being proven wrong time after time.

“We are very proud of his accomplishments and are looking forward to his next meet,” he said.

Also competing in Saskatoon was Prince Albert’s Kate Payette, who finished second in her weight category.
