Next Leader?

Conservative leader hopeful visits P.A. during campaign trail

A St. Brieux man trying to become the next leader of the Federal Conservative Party recently stopped in Prince Albert.

Joseph Bourgault spoke to around 100 people on Thursday where he outlined all of the priorities he’d focus on if he was chosen to lead the party and ultimately become Canada’s Prime Minister.

This included getting the country’s spending under control, stopping illegal immigration, and getting rid of the federal carbon tax.

Despite never being a politician, Bourgault believes his nearly 40 years in executive leadership proves he’s qualified for the job.

“Justin Trudeau simply does not have the leadership skills or the competency skills to know how to manage a huge organization like the Canadian federal government.”

One of Bourgault’s biggest focuses is fixing the tax system.

He outlined a plan that would stop people who make less than $50,000 a year from paying taxes and increasing people’s rates by how much money bring in. He noted this would also help the country become more pro-life, something he supports, as potential mothers could afford to raise a child.

A big talking point, especially with the Prince Albert crowd, was the COVID-19 pandemic.

Bourgault, who took part in the Freedom Convoy, made it clear he didn’t support the mandates brought in.

“I would have never shut the economy down, never in a hundred years. In the history of mankind, we have never done something like that.”

He also expressed he wasn’t a fan of the vaccines. He also criticized the government for not using medication like Ivermectin, an antiparasitic drug, against the virus which he believes was most likely a “bioweapon created in Wuhan.”

Meanwhile, Bourgault isn’t an official candidate yet for the Conservative leadership race.

He needs to collect 500 signatures and raise $300,000 by April 29th.

People who’ve also shown interest in becoming the next leader include Pierre Poilievre, Leslyn Lewis, Roman Baber, Jean Charest, Patrick Brown, Scott Aitchison, Bobby Singh, Marc Dalton, Leona Alleslev, and Joel Etienne.
