Salary Increases

P.A. employees getting raises, retro pay after two years without bargaining agreement

Employees for the City of Prince Albert will be getting a little more money in their paychecks.

P.A.’s city council met on Tuesday where they approved bargaining agreements with CUPE Local 160 and 882 for 2020 and 2021.

The last agreement between the two sides had expired at the end of 2019, however, talks on a new deal were postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and changes in personnel.

“When you do negotiations you want to have face-to-face, you want to have all your team there,” said Mayor Greg Dionne.

The two sides met in November 2021 where they agreed on salary increases. They also agreed because the two years had already come and gone, wages were the only thing they’d consider changing.

Based on 2019 salaries, employees will get a 1.75 per cent raise to account for 2020. Afterward, their wage will go up by another 1.75 per cent which will account for 2021. After both raises are calculated, this will be their salary until a new deal is approved.

Employees will also get retro pay for the money they didn’t get in the past two years.

Meanwhile, Dionne added talks will start soon on a new agreement for 2022.
