P.A.’s Manson returns to the NHL as assistant coach

After playing in 1,103 NHL games, Prince Albert’s Dave Manson has returned to the show as a coach.

According to reports from TSN, Manson got the promotion from the Bakersfield Condors to their parent club, the Edmonton Oilers, on Wednesday after the Oilers fired head coach Dave Tippett and assistant coach Jim Playfair.

Manson will serve as an assistant coach on the Oilers, as Jay Woodcroft will take over the head coaching duties. Manson has been Woodcroft’s top assistant since the pair joined the Condors in the 2018-19 season.

The Condors are 18-9-4-3 this year after their division win a year ago.

Like Manson, Tippett is also a former Prince Albert Raiders player, after playing in the team’s SJHL days from 1979-81. Under Tippett, the Oilers have had a tumultuous up-and-down season and are currently in fifth place in the NHL Pacific Division with a 23-18-3 record. They are currently out of a playoff spot, despite having two of the top three scorers in the league in former Raider Leon Draisaitl (64 points) and Connor McDavid (61 points).
