Government reports 242 new cases of COVID-19, 10 deaths in the province

The provincial government reported 242 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 10 new deaths of COVID-19 patients Tuesday.

Among those new cases, 194 were unvaccinated individuals and 40 were among the 0–11 age group which is not eligible for the vaccine.

This brings the provincial total to 69,331 reported cases; 4,385 cases are considered active and 64,220 cases are considered recovered.

The new cases in Northern Saskatchewan are found in the Far North West (eight), Far North East (10), North West (35), North Central (12), North East (10).

More than one-fourth (28.5 per cent) of new cases are in the age category of 20 to 39.

More than one in seven (15.3 per cent) new cases that were eligible for vaccination (aged 12 years and older) were fully vaccinated.

As of Tuesday, 340 people are in hospital, including 73 in ICU. Of the 340 patients, 259 (76 per cent) were not fully vaccinated.

September COVID-19 totals

Of the 13,141 cases reported in September, 10,237 (77.9 per cent) were unvaccinated or tested positive within three weeks of receiving their first vaccination. About 913 cases (6.9 per cent) were partially vaccinated with one dose, while 2,904 cases (22.1 per cent) were fully vaccinated. Of the 2,904 cases with a second dose, 11 per cent (320) had comorbid conditions and 21.2 per cent (616) were 70 years and older.

Of the 449 people hospitalized with COVID-19 in September, 348 (77.6 per cent) were unvaccinated or tested positive within three weeks of receiving their first vaccination. Roughly 20 cases (4.5 per cent) were partially vaccinated with one dose, while 101 cases (22.5 per cent) were fully vaccinated. About 13 were 19 years and younger and 12 were 12 years and younger.

Of the 83 people admitted to ICU, 73 (87.9 per cent) were unvaccinated or tested positive within three weeks of receiving their first vaccination. Two cases (2.4 per cent) were partially vaccinated with one dose, while 10 cases (12 per cent) were fully vaccinated. Four were 19 years and younger and two were 12 years and younger.

Among the cases reported in September, 72 people passed away; 35 were unvaccinated or less than three weeks after their first vaccination.

COVID-19 Summary for Oct. 5, 2021:

From Sept. 29 – Oct. 5, 27,364 doses of COVID-19 vaccine were given in Saskatchewan, bringing the total number of vaccines administered to 1,576,702.

As of Oct. 5, 82 per cent of those 12 and over have received their first dose and 73 per cent are fully vaccinated.

There were 2,988 new cases of COVID-19 to report in Saskatchewan from Sept. 29 – Oct. 5, bringing the provincial total to 69,331 cases, including 3,293 recoveries were recorded during the same period.

The province also reported 44 new deaths from Sept. 29 – Oct. 5.

NITHA numbers

As of Oct. 4, there are 13 new cases to report in NITHA communities; seven (54 per cent) were unvaccinated, 0 per cent are partially vaccinated and six (46 per cent) were fully vaccinated.

There are 195 active cases of COVID-19 in NITHA communities.

These cases are found in the Far North Central (Athabasca), four; Far North West, 54; Far North East, 89; North Central, 36; and North East, 12; 5901 cases (96 per cent) have recovered, and eight people are in hospital.

Athabasca Health Authority

As of Oct. 4, the Athabasca Health Authority (AHA) is reporting only four active cases of COVID-19 in AHA communities. This includes three in Fond Du Lac and one in Black Lake. No new cases were reported that day.

One person in Fond Du Lac is in hospital right now due to COVID-19.

Since the start of the pandemic, the AHA has reported 516 positive cases of COVID-19. Primary health care executive director Taiwo Olubanwo said in a recent press release that 20 per cent of people in the Far North Central region, the AHA’s service area, of the province has tested positive for COVID-19.
