Raiders receive reinforcements in Regina, but still not enough for 2 points

Oct 2, 2021 | 4:00 PM

With all kinds of turnover and new faces in their forward group, the Prince Albert Raiders were relieved to welcome back their top two scorers from last season in Ozzy Wiesblatt and Reece Vitelli. They were even more excited after seeing both playmakers score goals in their season debuts, as well.

But it still wasn’t enough to get the two points.

The Raiders may have doubled their goal count from their season opener on Friday, but they fell 5-2 to the Pats on Saturday at the Brandt Centre.

Sloan Stanick had a pair of goals and an assist, including the game-winning goal. Cole Carrier and Zack Stringer also scored for the Pats.

The Raiders had kept the exceptional Connor Bedard off the scoresheet until the 13-minute mark of the third period when he dove to backhand in a highlight-reel goal to make it 5-2.

Both teams traded the first four goals of the game before the Pats started to rally midway through the second, scoring the final three goals of the game.

Carter Serhyenko had 29 saves on 34 shots for the Raiders in the defeat. Matthew Kieper stopped 19 of 21 Raider attempts on goal.
