Green Fee Update

Pricing changes to be made at Cooke Golf Course for future improvements

Sep 17, 2021 | 3:00 PM

The Cooke Municipal Golf Course will be featuring an increase to prices next season to help with the cost of future improvements to the course.

Next year the golf course will see a four percent increase to the 2022 rates and fees.

Darcy Myers, head pro at the golf course said this increase will be across the board, increasing the prices of green fees, cart rentals, and season memberships.

“Some of the money will be dedicated to our capital reserve fund for future improvements,” Myers said. “We are looking at restoring our bunkers and some pathway improvements.”

The cart paths at the golf course have not seen any repairs since 2003, almost 20 years.

“Some of our paths are in dire need of replacement,” Myers added. “We’re just trying to make the best improvements with the money that is available to us.”

On average the course generates $180,000 dollars through the sale of cart rentals and pathway fees. Fifty-thousand dollars of this annual revenue generated will be allocated to the golf course improvement reserve for the lone purpose of pathway reconstruction and repair. Sponsorship funding for the golf course will also go towards the reserve funds.

An adult green fee at the golf course is currently $56 dollars. With the four per cent increase it will be $58.25.

A junior green fee is $25 dollars. With the four per cent increase it will be $26.

A cart rental fee is $24 dollars. With the four per cent increase it will be $24.95.

A season membership for weekdays before the date of May 1 is $1,325,00. With the four per cent increase it will be $1,378,00.

With the increase of funds, the golf course is hoping to begin the project of restoring the bunkers by the end of the next season.

This project will potentially be completed in two stages. Due to plugged drainage, poor quality sand, and overall deterioration over time has made a complete renovation required.

Currently there are 29 bunkers on the golf course. The goal will be to reduce the total number of bunkers while maintaining the integrity of the golf course. A 38 per cent reduction of bunkers was proposed, which would leave 18 reconstructed bunkers to reduce the amount of resources like sand and maintenance required.

The golf course’s advisory committee will now get together and prioritize an action plan identifying improvement areas.
