Prince Albert’s Ryan Rohovich is vying for a chance to win $20,000 and appear in the internationally read Muscle and Fitness magazine.

The 34-year-old is one of 43 people competing for the title of Mr. Health and Fitness. Rohovich, who has nearly 10 years experience training in mixed martial arts (MMA), including a number of professional fights, told paNOW the money is a nice incentive to compete, but added there’s another great reason to put his name forward.

“It would give a lot of exposure and help in my career as an MMA athlete, and help get sponsors,” he said.

When asked what he would do with the money, Rohovich explained he would probably put some money down on a house, as well as buy some equipment for North Wake Martial Arts where he trains.

“Or maybe go on a vacation with the family. Twenty-thousand dollars goes quick,” he said.

Despite the challenges brought on by the pandemic, Rohovich has not only succeeded in maintaining his physique but improved on it. He explained one of his secrets was diet, becoming a vegan in January. He also explained he just stayed active, both at the gym as well as other activities such as swimming.

When asked what advice he would pass on to people looking to make a change in their own lives, Rohovich said the first step is to get moving.

“Go train, go walk, run, anything. It’s just a matter of showing up and doing it. A lot or time people say they are too tired after work. It’s just a mindset,” he said.

Rohovich is currently training for his next potential MMA fight in September, where he will make his 145 lb debut. He had previously hoped to compete this month at a Battlefield Fight League (BFL) event but at the last minute his opponent pulled out for health reasons.

“That’s three in a row that have not worked out, so I’m really hoping we can come to terms with the next BFL event and get back in the winning column and continue my career and my goal,” Rohovich said.

Voting for the magazine contest is underway and will be narrowed to a group of 15 on June 24. People can vote once a day and Rohovich encouraged people to also follow him on his Facebook and Instagram accounts.
