A seniors’ living complex in Prince Albert is on lockdown after five residents tested positive for COVID-19.

Manager of the Columbian Centre Rob Fahlman said all of the residents who tested positive are doing very well and are isolating in their own suites.

“We have things set up so we can get supplies to them and make sure they’re comfortable,” Fahlman said. “That’s what we do at the Columbian Centre, we look after the seniors in the building because in my mind, we’re one big family here.”

A total of 59 residents live in the building which is run by the Knights of Columbus. Home care staff are still allowed in while wearing personal protective equipment, but residents are not allowed to leave. Fahlman said there are common areas within the building, but activities have been curtailed since the beginning of the pandemic and the building has been diligent with their sanitization and cleaning protocols. He said the building will be on lockdown until public health tells them otherwise.

“And that is dependent on test results we get back late next week,” he said. “All of the residents have been tested and we’re all due to be tested again this Saturday.”

The Columbian Centre was first informed of the positive COVID-19 results in a resident on Dec. 23.
