Young boy remembered as ‘selfless’ and ‘loving’

Options are now available for people wishing to make donations in memory of a young boy killed last weekend in Prince Albert.

Seven-year-old Bentlee was found dead last Sunday afternoon, along with his grandparents Sandra Henry and Denis Carrier. All were victims of a homicide. Bentlee’s five-year-old sister Kendrah was also found on the property in the 300 block of MacArthur Drive, suffering from critical injuries. She was transported by STARS to a hospital in Edmonton where she remains in stable condition.

Beau Lac Funeral Home has been asked to handle Bentlee’s funeral arrangements, and according to an obituary posted Friday afternoon, donations are to be made out to St. John Community School or the fourth Prince Albert scout group.

“Bentlee was a loving, caring, outgoing little man, and he was very selfless. He was always putting himself last. Bentlee will definitely be missed by many loved ones including family, friends, scout family, and school family,” a statement read.

Mark Cantin, the principal of St. John Community School said all donations will go to Bentlee’s family for funeral arrangements.

“This process was graciously accepted by Bentlee’s mother,” Cantin said.

The date of the service has not yet been finalized. Due to the recent COVID-19 pandemic, social gatherings which include funerals, are limited to 10 people. A spokesperson for the funeral home informed paNOW that in the past special arrangements have been made to help accomodate family members who cannot attend, including a private YouTube feed of the event.

While the spokesperson acknowledged the public interest in the tragedy, she explained the family’s request for privacy is a priority and should be respected. Anyone wishing to pass along condolences, can do so online through the funeral home’s website.

Members of the public can also donate money, so a tree is planted in memory of Bentlee. A GoFundMe page created to help the mother of the children has raised over $14,000.

Bentlee’s father Nathaniel Carrier, 28, faces three counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted murder. His court matters have been adjourned to April 15 at Prince Albert Provincial Court.
