Quakers outlast Titans, make three ‘tender changes in goal festival

Jan 15, 2020 | 9:50 PM

You get a goal! And you get a goal!

It was Oprah Winfrey night Wednesday night at the Art Hauser Centre, as the Prince Albert Titans and first place Saskatoon Quakers just couldn’t stop scoring. The Quakers outlasted the Titans 10-7 to improve their sterling record to 26-3 on the season. The Titans are having their season in the last four years, with a record of 10-18-4.

The night saw just about everything. Not only did the Quakers play both of their goaltenders, but did so twice.

Parker Sturby started the game and was pulled after the Titans’ Joel Robinson scored to make it 3-2, 3:11 into the second period. Sturby left by surrendering three goals on 13 shots. Then his backup Steven Duchscher entered the game, giving up two goals on four shots in the 3:13 that followed. So Sturby was put back in, and finished off the second period by giving up another goal.

But Duchscher began the third period for the Quakers, making nine saves on 11 shots.

The Titans didn’t have the same luxury and couldn’t change their goaltender Travis Dryka if the wanted to, as Dryka was the only Titans goaltender dressed for the game. They also only put 13 skaters on the ice in front of them, so it wasn’t like they could shove pads on agoalie back there. Dryka saw a ton of pucks, and made 47 saves on 57 shots.

Jaxsen Hope had a two-goal, three point night for the Titans. Ben Zultok, Kaleb Charko and Brandon Tillmanns all had a goal and two assists. Joel Robinson had a goal and a helper. Tanner Hendriks also scored for the Titans.

Keegan Randell had a game high six-point night (a goal and five assists) for the Quakers, while Caleb Cherry and Jordan Hudson each had a pair of goals. A pair of former Mintos in Cole Young and Kyle Gray both scored for the Quakers, as well as Ronan Rheaume, Noah Bankowski and Jordan Bairos.

Heading down south

The Titans will get on the road for a Southern Saskatchewan tour on the weekend, taking on the Southern Rebels in Assiniboia on Saturday night, before a Sunday afternoon affair against Fort Knox in Fort Qu’Appelle.
