Man falls off boat, drowns on Deserter Lake

A man fishing with a friend on Thursday morning drowned after he fell out of their boat on Deserter Lake, in the Rural Municipality of Spiritwood.

According to the Spiritwood RCMP, the 78-year-old man fell overboard and that caused the boat to capsize. The man’s friend swam to shore and called for help.

Local residents and RCMP searched the lake immediately and the 78-year-old man’s body was recovered from the water.

The man was not wearing a life jacket, the RCMP said in a statement. Alcohol was not a factor in the accident.
