Teen charged after threat at Sturgeon Lake school reported from outside Canada

May 15, 2026 | 3:39 PM

A threat against Sturgeon Lake School that resulted in police patrolling the community and classes being cancelled, has led to a teen being charged.

Prince Albert RCMP were notified of a potential threat on May 11 at about 8:30 a.m. and responded immediately. Police said they did not find any indication of an active threat but maintained an increased presence in the community.

Students and staff remained inside the school that day under a hold-and-secure protocol. Classes were cancelled the following day.

Officers learned the initial report had been made from outside Canada by someone who reported threatening content directed at the school on a social media platform. A teenage boy who was a student at the school was arrested at a home in the community May 12. Officers seized a BB gun, a knife and an axe from the residence.
