Prince Albert may join federal wastewater drug monitoring plan
The City of Prince Albert could soon join a federal wastewater monitoring program aimed at giving local officials a better sense of substance use trends in the community.
A report heading to council says the proposed agreement with Health Canada would see Prince Albert take part in the National Wastewater Drug Surveillance program.
The program tests wastewater for more than 550 drugs and drug-related compounds, including fentanyl, fentanyl analogues, new psychoactive substances and chemicals tied to drug production.
The city already is part of the s Statistics Canada’s Canadian Wastewater Survey, which focuses on a quantitative, statistics-based approach.
