Victoria Hospital Foundation turns 30
The Victoria Hospital Foundation has reason to celebrate this year.
It’s been 30 years since the birth of the Foundation back in 1985. According to executive director Sherry Buckler, it was formed by a small group of people after the provincial government called for communities to provide 20 per cent of hospital capital expenditures.
Since then the Foundation has grown partners in many places throughout the province.
“It operates with a staff of 3 people, in a space of 650 square feet on the main floor of the Victoria hospital. It has a Board of 15 community members who support the staff and goals of the VHF. We also have a 50-strong and growing group of volunteers who give of their time and skills when help is needed,” Buckler said in a statement, adding it operates at $0.18 per dollar.
