Saskatoon death suspicious, police say

Apr 2, 2015 | 7:38 AM

A young man is dead and police are treating his death as suspicious.

During the lunch hour on Wednesday, officers responded to a report that a man was injured just north of 22nd Street. Police found the young man’s body lying outside of a home on Avenue I North.

Police Chief Clive Weighill said two teen homicides in two week is “very concerning” and it’s one of the reasons he’s shuffling his police service.

“That’s why we’re trying to get as many tentacles out there as we can into the community,” Weighill said.

The home in the Westmount neighbourhood was surrounded by police tape most of the day as investigators tried to figure out how the man died.

Marlene Kakakaway said her daughter found the teen on her front lawn after an apparent fight the night before.

“She phoned me and said that he was laying outside their window,” Kakakaway said, adding the young man is a friend of her daughter’s.

“They went and checked on him and he wasn’t breathing. She was really frantic.”

The identity of the victim has not been released.

The Major Crime and Forensic Identification teams are leading the investigation.
