Police connect two area rugs to Burns homicide

The RCMP Major Crimes Unit is providing more information about the Monica Burns murder investigation.

The RCMP is looking for anyone that might know of someone who may have recently disposed of two large black area rugs/carpets.

The rugs were found with Burns’ body on Jan. 17, on the snowmobile trail northwest of Prince Albert.  

“Rugs were located with the body, but just to protect the integrity of the investigation I won’t be releasing any other details,” said RCMP spokesperson Mandy Maier.

The two area rugs are described as having a white, glued, mesh backing. The original size of the rugs are five feet wide by eight feet long. However, both carpets have evidence of cutting along some of the edges, as well as having distinctive cut-outs, suggesting modification to fit in a particular space or room.

Investigators believe the rugs were purchased in the past year. 

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact RCMP or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.

The autopsy conducted on Monica Burns was completed last Tuesday. The RCMP say they will not be releasing any information about the findings.

“Tips continue to come in for investigators and they’ve been working hard to find who’s responsible for the death of Monica Burns,” Maier said.
