The annual Radio-Television News Directors Association awards have been announced and paNOW.com is among the winners.

“It’s really exciting for us to be recognized by people in the industry, especially this early in the website’s life,” said Robin Jones, manager of paNOW.com.

“It verifies paNOW as an important online news source and shows the growing value of online news and social media in how people gain information.”

Each year the RTNDA awards recognize the best in the radio and television industry, selecting a few entries from the hundreds they receive, said Michael Fulmes, RTNDA awards chairman.

“For someone to win an award like this, it’s pretty astounding. The competition is wide, it’s varied and it’s very competitive, so I think it means a lot,” he said.

The Use of New Media Award is particularly meaningful because of the shift towards online and social media as a place to get information, Flumes said.

Jones said he sees how people are increasingly interested in using online news sources.

“paNOW came along to fill a gap in the community of Prince Albert. There was a newspaper and radio, but no place where people could get their news, weather, classifieds and updated event information all the time,” he said.

“paNOW does all of that and the community really seems to appreciate it.”

It is important to recognize and validate the good work going on in the media industry, said Flumes.
Jones agrees.

“I don’t think this award would have been possible without the dedicated news team that constantly strive to keep the news updated as well as acceptance and support throughout the Rawlco network.”
