Stolen copper wire arrests made in Saskatoon

Mar 2, 2011 | 2:25 PM

Two arrests were made Tuesday after police showed up at a home on 26th street and found a stock pile of copper wire.

Thieves steal the copper wire from construction sites, then sell it off at recycling centres in turn for a quick buck.

“There is a black market for this type of copper wire, and it's being sold to local businesses,” said Constable Tisha rae Stonehouse. “So we really think awareness is key in this.”

She warns business owners that thieves typically scout out construction sites in the day, then return at night to make off with the precious metal.
