The Prince Albert Police Service is saying the warmer weather in Prince Albert means more theft from vehicles and damages to property.

“We’d like to remind the public that crimes of opportunity, like willful damages to vehicles, are going to increase with the warmer weather that we’re experiencing as of late,” said Sgt. Jason Stonechild with the Prince Albert Police Service.

Stonechild has some tips to help people avoid becoming victims of crime.

“Make sure you remove all valuables from inside your vehicle. At the very least, keep them out of sight. In addition, keep lights on when you’re not at home and at night, keep your porch light on. Criminals don’t like light, they like darkness, so they’ll avoid that like the plague,” Stonechild said.

Over the weekend, the Prince Albert Police Service responded to five calls where vehicle windows were smashed and contents stolen, six calls of damages to property, and two break and enters.
