SIAST strike not off the table

Feb 14, 2011 | 10:26 AM

The future remains uncertain for SIAST students across Saskatchewan.

The union representing instructors has wrapped up two weeks of meetings with its members to discuss the final offer put forward by SIAST management.

It proposes a 5.5 per cent wage increase over three years.

“The indications are that the members are on side with what the bargaining committee is doing,” said Jim Steele, with the union's negotiating committee.

“They're saying that this offer is not acceptable in any shape or form and they want us (the bargaining committee) to proceed softy.”

Steele said the committee will meet next week to discuss their next move.

Meanwhile, he is not ruling out the possibility of a strike.

“You know it's still there…it's on the table…..but I can't comment on that at this point.”

The union held a strike vote last November.

SIAST has campuses in Regina, Saskatoon, Moose Jaw and Prince Albert.
