Northern Spirits Showcase

Feb 12, 2011 | 7:30 AM

February 19th at the Prince Albert Exhibition Grounds at 2:00. Tickets are $15 at the door.

A Project for Youth done in partnership with the Northern Sport, Culture and Recreation District; Missinipi Broadcasting Corp., and Musqua Entertainment (Voices of the North) and Prince Albert Grand Council.

In September 2010, four major partners joined forces once again to bring you the 4th Annual “Northern Spirits”. Together with the help of our communities we will bring youth from across the north that have aspirations in the arts but do not quite know how to go about making those dreams come true.

For three days starting September 17th, 2010 we will work with northern youth to help them develop a good understanding of all that the arts can do. We hope to open their eyes and give them a real sense of pride in who they are and how talented they are.

We held workshops in the following areas (to name a few):
 Master of Ceremonies (public speaking, stage presence, etc.)
 Self Esteem Workshops
 Live Band Workshops (with separate instrument clinics if requested)
 Broadcasting (with hands on work at MBC!)
 Production
 Stage Presence
…And many more

We provided tours, excellent keynote speakers, and lots of fun, all mixed into three days that will
send them home with a spark of interest.

At the end of the 3 days, our jury will selected 20 successful candidates to be involved in putting on their own show.

We selected:
 PRODUCER, CO-PRODUCER (stage manager)
 STAGE HANDS, SET DESIGNERS
 EMCEE
 ORGANIZING COMMITTEE
 SOUND AND LIGHTING TRAINEES
 AND APPROX. 10 PERFORMERS (Dance, singers, fiddle players etc.)

The show is theirs, we only provided a professional band and mentorship in each area,
otherwise the youth run it all! This show was originally held on October 9th, 2010.

These children are our most valuable resource into the future and they deserve to see all the options
they have. Last years’ successes were not just the committees. Look to the children who participated
and you will see the community benefits, the families, the schools. I sat with those youth, I spoke with
them, I laughed with them and learned right alongside. I found one common thing to be true. I always
hear that one person cannotmake a ripple in the ocean. That’s why I need you all to join me in
bringing our youth together for these workshops, together we can make a tidal wave of encouragement, it has started already!
