Mining giant signs deal with Saskatchewan First Nation

BHP Billiton has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the George Gordon First Nation.

It’s the second such deal BHP has signed with First Nations near their Jansen mine site.

The first agreement was made with the Muskowekwan First Nation.

Thanks to the MOU, the benefit will come in the form of jobs and contract opportunities for First Nation businesses.

“It is our hope, especially our youth, will have opportunities for employment,” said Chief Glen Pratt.

After the agreement was signed, Chief Pratt said that he hopes BHP's takeover attempt of Potashcorp is successful.

Three other First Nations in the area are expected to sign similar deals with BHP.
