New era for Art Gallery

Oct 25, 2010 | 12:23 PM

The new decade is going to bring a new face to the Art Gallery of Prince Albert.

Pat Grayston, chairwoman of the Art Gallery of Prince Albert, said over the next 10 years a prominent Prince Albert family will be donating half a million dollars to the gallery.

“It’s really going to enable us to make this a distinguished art gallery,” said Grayston.

Grayston added nothing is official until the Mann family is able to meet with the signing authorities at the art gallery and Mayor Jim Scarrow, who will be witness to the signing. At that time the gallery’s name will be changed to the Mann Art Gallery of Prince Albert.

The gallery has historical significance to the Mann family.

“The Mann family at one time, right at the location… of the art gallery had their car dealership,” said Grayston.

Other than waiting for the papers to be signed, Grayston said the gallery has no reason to expect any roadblocks. Meetings have already taken place to change certain bylaws to allow the art gallery to receive the donation.

There are already plans for the new funding.

“I can’t reveal what artists, but there’s already talk around about what relevant Saskatchewan artists we’d like to purchase with this money that we could never have afforded otherwise,” said Grayston.

There would be $20,000 a year given to the gallery to acquire local and provincial artists.
An official announcement from the Art Gallery is expected by the end of November.
