Voyageur Canoe Pageant

Jul 14, 2017 | 4:12 PM

The Centennial Voyageur Canoe Pageant celebrated Canada’s 100th birthday in 1967 with a salute to the Voyageurs, the French explorers who explored the New World on Canada’s waterways.

Teams representing 10 provinces and territories retraced a 5,283 km fur trade route from Rocky Mountain House to the Expo ’67 World’s Fair in Montreal, Quebec.

In 2017, another Canadian milestone will be celebrated: 150 years since Confederation and 50 years since the 1967 pageant – the 2017 Voyageurs Rendezvous Canoe Race!

The Voyageurs Rendezvous Canoe Race launches on July 1/2017 in Rocky Mountain House, Alberta.

Paddlers will travel 1600 km via 3 provinces and 21 communities in 23 days on the North Saskatchewan and Saskatchewan River!

As this event pays tribute the importance of our rivers to our Canadian history, the paddlers will be carrying Rupertsland Express mail bags in their canoe.  These mail bags hold commemorative certificates, stamped for authenticity with the Voyageurs Rendezvous postage stamp.

These will be  mailed from The Pas, Manitoba to certificate holders  when the race ends.

See the attachment of when they will be in your community!
