Dec 13, 2010 | 6:22 PM

Tis the Season of hard candy, nuts and other chokable items – but choking can happen anytime and anywhere.

Remember these are tips only and will never replace proper training.

Recognize that the person might be choking. How? Ask them if they can speak.

Act quickly!
 •  Stand behind the person
•  Form a fist with one hand
•  Place fist below ribcage, thumb inward
•  Hold the fist with other hand
•  Keep arms off ribcage
•  Give five inward and upward thrusts
•  Repeat till the object is ejected
•  Same method is used for a child too

If the person goes unconscious dial 9-1-1 and start CPR.
