Microdermabrasion

Jan 5, 2016 | 9:15 AM

Microdermabrasion is called Microderm for short.

Imagine a really, really fine grade of sandpaper combined with a vacuum cleaner. That’s a general way to describe Microderm.

It’s the only form of exfoliation that has grit and suction. It buffs, polishes, and deep cleans the skin in a way nothing else can.

Skin becomes smoother. Skin tone is more even. Pores are smaller because they’ve been vacuumed out.

Microderm also stimulates circulation. This improves skin health and quality.

Microderm can help with oiliness, black heads, large pores and congested skin.

It also helps with aging because it buffs out the little lines. Microderm also gives back that youthful healthy glow.

Here’s what Microderm doesn’t help: Rosacea, facial redness, and broken capillaries – also called couperose. All forms of exfoliation should be avoided with these skin conditions. Remember, if it’s red, it doesn’t get better with scrubbing. It gets worse.  Never try to scrub away redness…ever.

Today, there are all kinds of machines that call themselves Microderm. Many don’t use suction anymore. You get the buffing and polishing but not the suction. Microderm that doesn’t suck, in my books, really sucks. Think about never vacuuming your carpet again.

Remember, Microderm doesn’t need to hurt to help. Skin is an organ. It’s supposed to be treated with respect, like an antique silk. After all, you don’t punch yourself in the pancreas to make it work better.
