Community Initiatives Fund Supports Community

Jul 29, 2015 | 10:36 AM

Improved quality of life is a priority of our Saskatchewan Party government. There are many projects and programs that we have initiated and maintained over the last eight years with this goal in mind.

One of these is the Saskatchewan Community Initiatives Fund (CIF).  The CIF supports many locally-led community projects.  These grants support childhood development, positive life choices, active living, volunteerism, community celebrations and facility upgrades within communities.

The latest grants are supporting 502 projects to enhance individual, family and community wellbeing across Saskatchewan.  There are three avenues through which groups can apply for a CIF grant: the Community Grant, the Community Places & Spaces, and Summer Grants.

This year, over $320,000 has been delivered to Prince Albert community projects.  Local groups and agencies will use the funds to work year-round, helping people through programming in many areas.

Some of the grants, awarded to well-known agencies, have been designated for parenting and literacy programs offered in the city.  Building stronger families leads to stronger communities, and a strong Saskatchewan.

Six city schools will use their grants toward varying objectives, including nutrition and after school programs. One school will even develop new play areas.

Our creative arts community continues to thrive, enhanced with this support to programs at the Mann Art Gallery, and the Patunak Summer Art Program.  Five other groups are working to make summer a great time for youth.  They are offering summer training, summer camps and an interactive pre-school program.

CIF is also contributing to the work done by Prince Albert agencies to provide services for the disabled, mental health or addictions, other counselling and food security.

In total 21 local organizations recently received funding to deliver programs and services that will help make and keep Prince Albert strong.  Details of the current Prince Albert grants are available at: http://www.cifsask.org/cif/map_grant_entries/entries?town_ids=17

If you know of a worthy project that could benefit from this program, information on the application process can be found here: http://www.cifsask.org/grants/apply-here
