Saskatchewan Cancer Agency employees issue strike notice

Jun 16, 2011 | 5:36 PM

The Saskatchewan Government and General Employees Union (SGEU) has issued strike notice to the Saskatchewan Cancer Agency (SCA), meaning employees could walk off the job as early as midnight Friday.

Reg Padbury, with the Cancer Agency, explains essential services legislation should enable the SCA to hang on to most of their workforce.

“In the event of job action by the SGEU, 68 per cent of our employees would continue to work in order to provide base care to our patients and clients,” said Padbury.

Eighty-six per cent of cancer agency employees voted to strike last month. They want a 12 per cent wage increase over three years.
