The City of Prince Albert has a new number cruncher and her name is Cheryl Tkachuk.

She was appointed as the city's new Director of Financial Services Tuesday afternoon. This position was vacant since March 30, when the city unexpectedly terminated Steve Brown, in what Mayor Greg Dionne described as a choice to "go in a different direction.”

Tkachuk has served as the city’s Assistant Director of Finance for a little over one year. She came to the city following a 16-year career at the Co-operative Health Centre in Prince Albert where she was the manager of accounting. Tkachuk is a Certified Professional Accountant and holds a designation as a Chartered Professional in Human Resources.

“Cheryl has demonstrated a sound understanding of municipal government accounting and the nuances of leading a corporate finance department,” City Manager Jim Toye said in a press release. “Cheryl is dedicated to moving the department forward with a focus on improving services. I am very proud to announce her as our new director of financial services.”

The financial services department includes the city’s purchasing division, payroll, water and sewer utility, accounts payable, accounts receivable, budgeting, assessment and taxation and parking services.

"This is an exciting opportunity," Tkachuk said in a press release. "I am very much looking forward to working closely with the staff in the department to implement these improvements."
