Nipawin man to serve prison time for manslaughter
A Nipawin man, responsible for the death of another man during a house party, received his prison sentence this morning.
Danny Brian Crate, 33, was handed a five-a-half year sentence at the end of a hearing Wednesday at Nipawin Provincial Court. The case itself dates back to 2016. Crate was initially charged with second-degree murder in the death of 57-year-old Charles Francis Letendre, though he pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter in January of this year.
Letendre was found dead at a residence on First Ave. E. The cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head, and Letendre’s body was found in a bathtub.
Court heard the two men were involved in a fight during a house party. Crate showed another person at the party a note which read “I drowned Frank.”
