P.A. paving project peeves drivers

Oct 4, 2017 | 12:00 PM

Prince Albert motorists have been navigating their way around the downtown paving works the last few weeks, but it seems to be getting worse as crews reach some key sections.

There were delays of up to 20 minutes Wednesday morning with the big bottle-neck at Second Ave. and 15th St.

One driver thought the detours aren’t posted properly.

“You don’t know from one day to the next where you’re supposed to go,” she said. “One day it’s Second Ave., the next day it’s Central, and then you can’t go down there, then you try to figure your way back around!”

She said it’s frustrating not knowing where to drive ahead of time when one’s headed downtown, as every day seems to change.

“Trying to figure out where to turn on Central Avenue downtown… we have no clue,” she said.

Another driver told paNOW he faced long delays because all the alternative routes seemed to be blocked off as well.

“You take one detour and come up against another one. It was backed up on Second, so I tried Central and that was closed. You end up going from one traffic jam to another,” he said.

paNOW has reached out to the city to get an update on the paving schedule and what to expect in the coming days. In the meantime, a driver told us everyone needs to do their part to ease the frustration and get better at zipper merging.

“It would be nice if everyone would just give a little bit and let people in a lane.”
