Conexus to merge operations in South Hill location

Jul 11, 2017 | 1:08 PM

Come November, Conexus members will be doing all their business at one branch.

The credit union announced last week it will consolidate its operations in Prince Albert to the South Hill location come November. The same is being done in Moose Jaw and the company states the decision won’t impact employment.

“Business is changing,” Conexus CEO Eric Dillon said, adding that across both rural and urban markets, about 90 per cent of transactions are conducted digitally.

He said branches today are heavily used as advice centres for clients on more complex manners such as wealth management, estate planning or retirement.

“From our perspective, it just makes sense to consolidate the two branches into one and make sure that by doing that, we have the money to invest in building the next generation of credit unions,” he said.

He said the next generation of branches will be directed at convenience for customers. He said people want access to services 24/7 and foresees advisors coming to clients in the future.

“That is what we are trying to build across the province,” he said.

Rick Orr with the Downtown Business Improvement District said he was disappointed to hear news of the city centre location closing by Oct. 31 but said he is excited to learn who the new tenants may be.

Despite the closure, he said it was an “exciting time to be downtown” as three new business recently opened their doors; Rock Trout Cafe, Proper Decor, and On the Avenue Artisan’s Gallery.
