Trash can fires set deliberately: Fire Chief

Jul 6, 2017 | 10:00 AM

Prince Albert firefighters were busy yesterday morning extinguishing several trash can fires in a back alley between the 700- and 900-blocks of 13th St. W.

Fire Chief Jason Everitt told paNOW at least four garbage cans were burned, and said the fires were set maliciously. Luckily, fire crews extinguished the burning trash cans before any serious damage occurred and no injuries were reported.

“This is not uncommon,” Everitt said. “It doesn’t happen often, but it does happen.”

Everitt said trash can fires have a high potential for injury and property damage, because the bins can contain almost anything and they are often left adjacent to fences, sheds, garages and vehicles.
