Gas leak, garbage bin, structure fires fill weekend

It already has been a busy May long for the Prince Albert Fire Department who responded to 14 calls over the weekend.

Saturday at 2:17 am, firefighters responded to a grass fire along Highway 55 East. About 1,000 square feet of grass was burnt and the cause of the fire is considered suspicious.

Later that morning, the department responded to a natural gas leak on 8 Street East and 10 Avenue East. SaskEnergy was called in to help repair damage to a pipe that connected to a home. A handful of surrounding homes were evacuated before the repair was made.

At around 4:30 p.m. that afternoon, crews responded to a to a vacant lot on 6th Street East to investigate a small fire. Crews arrived on scene and found a small amount of paper that had been lit on fire and had gone out. Firefighters searched the area for any other fires but nothing was found.

Soon after, crews were called to an RV Camper on fire. On arrival, there was a fully involved camper in the backyard with a downed power line arcing as a result of the fire. 

That evening, firefighters were called to the R.M. of P.A. for a structure fire. It was put out by the home owner prior to crews arrival.

Sunday, at 1:07 a.m. crews responded to two garbage bins that had been lit on fire at Kinsmen Park and d a portable bathroom at St. Mary’s football grounds. The portable bathroom was completely destroyed.

That afternoon, crews responded to an accident on 1 Avenue West and 22 Street West. EMS transported three people involved to the hospital.

Crews were also called to Knox Place for a carbon monoxide alarm, where low levels of CO were found in the basement. Two false alarm calls were also responded to.
