Car wash construction changes 2nd Ave. landscape

Jun 26, 2017 | 2:00 PM

Prince Albert residents may have noticed a significant change to the landscape at the corner of Second Ave. and 26th St. W.

Four homes were removed and the properties rezoned as neighbourhood commercial to make way for a new 14-bay wand wash.

“The homes were not torn down. All four of them have been repurposed and will be sitting on a new foundation at some point in the future,” Devin Meeks said, owner of the future car wash business.

Second Avenue Wand Wash will also feature a three-bay dog wash and an attached convenience store. Meeks said a lot of time has been spent researching the latest and greatest car wash know-how.

“We’ve been to a major car wash convention in Nashville and Winnipeg, Calgary, Edmonton and Saskatoon to see what’s out there and make some decisions on what we want to present in Prince Albert,” he said.

The company may incorporate new technology into their machinery like salt neutralizers which are used to combat the various ingredients in ice melt used during the winter time.

Meeks anticipated his business to open in the spring of 2018.

According to the city of Prince Albert, the wand wash is one of 132 new business licenses issued as of June 21 this year. That’s compared to 165 business licenses issued by the end of June last year.
