Four councillors suspended in MLCN

Feb 7, 2017 | 9:03 AM

Four councillors have been suspended without pay in the Montreal Lake Cree Nation (MLCN).

A Band Council Resolution (BCR) signed by MLCN Chief Edward Henderson yesterday was emailed to paNOW. MLCN councillors Dirk McDonald, Frank J Roberts, Roger I Bird and Sidney Nelson are named in the resolution. The document alleges the group told creditors and funders “they are in charge.”

The BCR states the councillors have been removed for failing to act in the best interests of the Cree Nation. It also states the group conspired to disrupt the peace, order and good government of MLCN by causing fiscal instability, political unrest and harassing staff and contracts in the Cree Nation.

The BCR calls for a letter advising the suppliers and funders they are not to take direction, or provide information to the suspended councillors.
