Meals on Wheels receives cheerful placemats kudos to quilt guild

Those receiving Meals on Wheels will now have new quilted placemats, thanks to the Prince Albert Quilt Guild.

Terri Dolezsar, vice-president of the quilt guild, said they make the donation every year.

“I think it’s a good thing for the community,” she said. “[The recipients] will be able to use them year round, and look at them and think that somebody cared enough about them to make it for them.”

Dolezsar said she believes the donation is more of a year round thing than just for Christmas, because people care about the recipients all the time.

“We all put love into everything we make,” she said.

Member Jan Yakubchuk said this placemat donation was one of the many community projects the group does every year. She said she believes the work they do helps bring the community together.

The patterns of the placemats varied in consideration of both genders. Some focused on topics like wildlife, some were of colours the quilt guild believed female recipients would like, and some were “just cheerful.”

The placemats were made by all 35 members of the quilt guild. Each mat took the members from half a day to three days to make.

Sonya Jahn, regional director of volunteer services at Prince Albert Parkland Health Region said she was grateful for the donation.

“This is truly a wonderful act of kindness and exemplifies why Prince Albert is a wonderful community to live in,” she said. “The talents that these ladies have shared by lovingly making these wonderful quilts will truly brighten the day.”
