Wanted: More tourists for P.A.

May 30, 2016 | 5:14 PM

The brightly coloured tourism flag was raised without much fanfare or even applause Monday morning, May 30, but the Prince Albert Tourism Board is hoping to make some noise this year.

According to CEO Amber Pratt, the tourism industry brings in $100 million annually for the city.

She said one of their biggest challenges is the lake country.

“We want people to come to Prince Albert and enjoy what Prince Albert has to offer, not just go to the lakes,” Pratt said.

She said she is aware of some of the negative stereotypes about Prince Albert, but they don’t let that detract them.

“There’s the odd time when you have a little bit of negativity but I think that happens everywhere,” she said.  “You get past that and you let people know the great things about Prince Albert.

Tourism Awareness Week in Prince Albert coincides with Saskatchewan Tourism Week.

Prince Albert Mayor Greg Dionne was on hand for the flag raising ceremony.

Representatives from the Prince Albert Co-op were also on hand, cooking hamburgers.

Money raised from the barbecue will be donated to Relay for Life and the Heart and Stroke Foundation’s Big Bike.
