War Amps celebrates 70 years of key tag service

May 11, 2016 | 1:30 PM

The War Amps service has helped re-unite owners with missing keys for decades and this year’s tag will mark a milestone anniversary: 70 years.

Jamie Lunn, a public awareness officer with the War Amps said the service has already started mailing key tags to residents in Saskatchewan.

“When you receive your free key tag in the mail, they are already active, so you can attach them to your key chain and it acts as a safeguard,” Lunn said. “If you ever lose your keys, the person who finds them can drop them into any Canada Post mail box or they can call the number on the back of the key tag and those keys can be returned to those who lost them free of charge.”

Ever since its beginnings, the War Amps key tag service have returned over a million and half set of lost keys to their owners, making it a valuable service for Canadians. Beyond the service, War Amps has also helped many child amputees across the country.

“We are able to assist them with the cost of artificial limbs and also emotional support,” she said. “We also cover the full cost of recreational limbs. So any child amputee who wants to participate in the activity we’re able to provide them with specialized artificial limbs so that they can participate in sports or any activity that they would choose to.”

For those who haven’t received the War Amps key tags already, Lunn said it should get to you soon and if you have not already receive yours, you can order them for free on the War Amps website.
