More charges laid in connection to Vermette escape

Prince Albert Police Service have arrested and charged two men in connection to the escape of Braidy Vermette from lawful custody on March 30, 2016.

Richard Favel had previously been sought for assisting in the escape. He was arrested Sunday, April 10 at a residence in Prince Albert.

Wade Halkett was arrested Tuesday, April 12 at a separate residence.

Both men have been charged with assisting Vermette’s escape from lawful custody, assault with a weapon, use of a firearm in commission of an offence and disguise with intent.

Favel was previously charged with breaching his recognizance, and was featured on PAPS Most Wanted list.

Police say Favel and Halkett are believe to be the masked men who assaulted correctional officers during Vermette’s escape outside Victoria Hospital.

They are still investigating anyone else who may have been involved in the escape.

Vermette was apprehended from a burning house with his girlfriend Tristen Smith on April 7, and was remanded to the Saskatchewan Penitentiary.
