Mounties are investigating a murder on a First Nation east of Regina.

While following up on a gun complaint, RCMP found 28-year-old Mario Kaiswatum dead in a home on the Standing Buffalo First Nation on New Year’s Day.

A 55-year-old man from the First Nation, Maurice Maple, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder. Police said he was taken to hospital with injuries he received before officers arrived.

Maple will appear in Fort Qu’Appelle Provincial Court on Monday, pending his release from hospital. On the same day, an autopsy will be done on the body of Kaiswatum.
