Fourth annual Youth Activity Fair looking to keep kids active

Aug 29, 2015 | 12:25 PM

Although it’s at a new location, kids should expect the same kind of fun.

The fourth annual Youth Activity Fair hosted by the Ranch Ehrlo Society is taking place at the Gateway Mall on Saturday, August 29 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

This is the first year the fair will take place at the mall.

Youth Activity Fair committee co-chair Shantelle Petersen said she hopes to see around 500 kids come out to enjoy activities, win prizes, and sign up for some local clubs.

“We’re just trying to give a voice to some of the clubs and get kids to see what else is out there for them. Get them more active, more involved and living healthier and active life styles – that’s our goal,” Petersen said.

Several groups such as Prince Albert Curling Club, Timberland Bowbenders Archery Club, and Jam Street Music Sessions have booths set up at the mall.

Kids can also shoot some hockey pucks or play in the bouncy castle in the south parking lot of the mall.

“We’re trying to give a voice to different activities and groups, but not just sports – cultural, drama and music, too,” Petersen said.

Families heading down to the mall can expect live entertainment, popcorn, and a chance to win over 50 prizes.

“The reason we decided to do this was because we wanted to get kids more active and involved in their community,” said Petersen.

“If we get just a few kids, that means we reached somebody and that’s our goal – to at least reach a few kids every time we have this.”
