RCMP arrest man in McLean murder

Aug 3, 2015 | 2:27 PM

The man suspected of a murder in the village of McLean was caught and arrested Sunday night after leading police on a manhunt.

The search for John Robert Strang began when police found the body of a woman in a home in the village.

The identity of the woman has not been released at this time. An autopsy is scheduled for next week in Saskatoon.

Residents of the town were not made aware of the murder because police didn’t think Strang, was in the area, however, news of the death has shocked residents.

One woman living next door to Strang, who wished to remain anonymous, said she had no idea anything happened.

“I heard nothing. The police came to my door this morning and that’s the first I heard of anything, or saw of anything,” she said. “It scared me. I talked to him a few times but, yeah, I’ll be locking my doors now. In a small town this size you shouldn’t have to lock your doors all the time.”

Dan Leonard heard about the death from his daughter, who told him she saw a body being taken out of the house.

“They should let people know what’s going on (it’s a) small town, and eveyone’s concerned and wants to know. Just like me, I’d like to know what really went on,” Leonard said.

McLean is roughly 40 kilometers east of Regina along Highway 1.
