Police investigate early morning river swim; paramedics care for assault victims

Jul 26, 2015 | 3:44 PM

Another busy weekend for police and paramedics is wrapping up in Prince Albert.

By noon on Sunday, July 26, Parkland Ambulance Paramedics had responded to 58 incidents for medical help.

Heat related problems seemed to be trending this weekend so paramedics are reminding people to drink water and seek shade in the hot summer conditions.

On Saturday, July 25, at 1:50 a.m., Paramedics went to a car accident 3 km west of the city on the Buckland Road. Paramedics cared for a 17-year-old girl with minor injuries who was then taken to hospital by ambulance for further care.

On Sunday, July 26, just before 2 a.m. Paramedics responded to an assault on the 200 block of 14th St. W.  A 25-year-old woman suffered minor injuries and was treated by paramedics before being taken to the hospital.

At 3 a.m. on Sunday, Parkland Ambulance was called to another assault, this time on the 100 block of 11th St. W. Paramedics tended to the minor injuries of a 30-year-old male with minor injuries and he was taken to hospital as well.

Early Sunday morning, Paramedics rushed to the North Saskatchewan River. People were reportedly in the water along the 1500 block of River Street.  When Paramedics arrived, they dealt with the situation and report there were no injuries. The case is now being dealt with by the Prince Albert Police Service.

The Prince Albert Police Service (PAPS) had 180 calls for service this weekend. The majority were in relation to intoxicated people and disturbances.

In total, the PAPS made 43 arrests, 35 of which were for people being intoxicated in public.
