Decision released in suspended officer case

Patrick Robin is no longer a man fighting to get his policing job back.

He has been reinstated as Prince Albert Police Officer.

Robin was dismissed from the service in March 2010 for, among other things, deciding to prosecute a traffic violation, after the crown prosecutor decided to drop it.

Anne Wallace, the hearing officer for Robin’s case, said in a decision released Wednesday, that he should be reinstated — effective Dec. 17, 2010.

The Hearing Officer’s Decision states, “Constable Robin’s misconduct does not render him unsuitable to continue as an officer with the Prince Albert Police Service.”

While a major recommendation of the decision is that Robin be reinstated, it is a long, complex decision with many conditions, said Dan Heffermon, the lawyer representing the police.

“The decision itself runs to approximately 90 pages in length, so I’m sure you can understand that it will take some time to review the decision and give it a careful analysis about what the next step in the process might be,” he said.

Conditions of Robin's reinstatement include he will be considered suspended from service from the Mar. 16 to Dec. 16, 2010.

He is also not entitled to any salary, pension or seniority for that suspended period of time.

Robin will be on probation for a year.

Terry Zakreski, Robin's lawyer, says he will talk with Robin about what comes next in the coming month as they review the decision.
