It smells better and tastes better than a cigarette that is for sure.

An electronic cigarette, e-cig, e-cigarette, or personal vaporizer is a battery-powered vaporizer filled with a flavoured e-juice including tobacco flavours, which produces an aerosol, commonly called vapor, rather than cigarette smoke, which the user inhales. They are made of stainless steel, glass or plastic, and do not contain tobacco.

Vaping, although still being debated on whether it is actually a better alternative to tobacco smoking, is gaining in popularity, especially over the last few years, and that proves true in Prince Albert and area. Vita Vapes, Prince Albert’s one stop shop for all your vaping needs including starter kits, Mods, RBA’s, RDA’s, Kanthal wire as well as replacement parts, coils, batteries, and juices continues, since they opened in March 2013, to see a growing client base.

Arliss Plummer, owner of Vita Vapes in Prince Albert says vaping serves as a convenient alternative to smoking.

“It mimics smoking so well except without all the junk that goes with it,” she said.  “It’s a great alternative and it’s much, much, much cheaper than regular smoking.”

Plummer a long time smoker herself said she has not smoked a traditional tobacco cigarette since the day she ordered her first e-cig and switched to vaping three and a half years ago.

“I was a smoker for about 30 years and I had tried absolutely everything there was to stop and nothing worked,” she said. “One day I was reading online and saw electronic cigarettes and after a month of thorough research thought maybe I could give that a try. I never had another cigarette afterwards.”

At Vita Vapes they sell starter kits for first timers and always have extra staff on duty that are ready to assist customers and answer any questions they might have. A popular starter kit sells for approximately $99 and consists of a case, two batteries, two clearomizers (tanks), charger with wall adapter, extra coils, and three bottles of juice. After that a typical e-cig user might spend somewhere around $20 to $40 a month on juice and extra coils or batteries. For a pack a day smoker that is a significant decrease in cost.

“We carry only top quality product that includes all the safety features,” said Plummer. “We are very customer service based and we don’t let any customer leave until they know exactly how to use our product. We set them up for success.”

Although they are not regulated to do so yet in Saskatchewan most vape shops do not sell to minors, this includes Vita Vapes in Prince Albert.

“Any reputable vape store doesn’t sell to minors,” said Plummer. “We ID very stringently.”

At Vita Vapes customers have over 130 different flavours of juice to choose from. Plummer said some popular flavours right now include Big Red Chewing Gum, B.C. Blast, and Kings Cream.

A typical electronic cigarette consists of three elements:

• E-Juice, which contains water and flavouring in propylene glycol (PG), vegetable glycerin (VG), some may also contain nicotine.
• A clearomizer with a heating element that turns the e-juice into vapour.
• A rechargeable battery to run the clearomizer.

Vita Vapes also offers cold laser therapy in the convenience of a handheld unit, which after one session performed and explained by staff, can be rented on a daily or weekly basis. Cold laser therapy is commonly used in sports medicine. The laser helps with many issues from acne, healing after surgery, pulled muscles, carpal tunnel, varicose veins and much more.
