An 18-year-old man escaped a watery death in Northern Saskatchewan on the weekend.

Early Saturday morning Stanley Mission RCMP responded to a call of a person driving a snowmobile while impaired near open water on the Churchill River.

Mounties arrived and spotted the teen in the water. Officers, along with a witness, used a tow rope to pull the man from the icy flow.

The man spent five to seven minutes in the frigid water before being pulled to shore. He was taken to the local medical clinic, treated and released.
